In December, Shar and I (Sherri) had the pleasure of being selected to take part in a travel agent education program at Walt Disney World. After arriving we checked in to our room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is an amazing hotel. It is a deluxe African themed resort. Some rooms have views of the savannah with live animals right outside your window. Our room is a standard room with a a view of the pool. The room itself is very nice with 2 queen beds with typical Disney theming and details every place you look. There are so many fun things to do in this hotel that are part of the immersive African theme too. There’s a safari only guests of this resort can go on, there’s fun activities in the lobby for kids and you can even watch an artisan hand carve many wonderful items.
Food is a hot topic when it comes to Disney so we wanted to put together a list of our favorites at each park.

New Star Wars entertainment offerings and attraction enhancements were officially unveiled at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The Star Wars galaxy is now closer than ever before, thanks to these new offerings:
Star Wars Launch Bay
Star Wars Launch Bay, located in Animation Courtyard, offers guests the chance to interact with Star Warscharacters by choosing to encounter the Dark Side in a Star Destroyer themed area, or visit with the brave Rebels in a makeshift Rebel Base – clear your mind and choose wisely, as one path may lead to Darth Vader while the other leads to Chewbacca.
Fans of the film franchise can also visit two different exhibits – Celebration Gallery and Celebration Hallway to view iconic ships from the Rebel Alliance and Imperial Navy fleet, as well as replica Star Wars props and murals. Guests excited for upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens can head to Preview Gallery to explore an area filled with costumes, artwork, models and more from the new film. And of course, shoppers can get their fix at Launch Bay Cargo, a unique shop that will offer a wide selection of Star Wars merchandise, including original artwork.
Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
This popular attraction, which takes guests on a daring journey through the Star Wars galaxy, has been enhanced to feature new characters and adventures from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple
Younglings can get in on the fun over at Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple. This popular offering, which allows young guests to step into the shoes of a Jedi in training, has been enhanced to feature new characters, including a new villain – the Seventh Sister Inquisitor from Star Wars Rebels.
Star Wars: Path of The Jedi
Guests who wish to be introduced to (or relive) the adventure and excitement of the Star Wars film franchise can do so at Star Wars: Path of the Jedi. Here, they can view an abridged cinematic reel that reviews Star Warsepisodes I-VII.
New Star Wars-inspired items have been added to menus at Food & Beverage locations throughout the park. Be on the lookout for Blue Milk Panna Cotta, Padawan Limeade, BB-8 Lemon and Butter Cream Cupcakes, and much more.
But the fun doesn’t end there. The “Symphony In The Stars: A Galactic Spectacular” nightly fireworks show will begin blasting off December 18.

Ever go to Disney World with the dining plan and have snack credits left over? Me too - but I am getting better! I am not sure if I just forget to use them or I don't eat that much because I am having too much fun riding all the attractions! I am going to share some of my favorite things to use snack credits on. (By the way... see that symbol over there? That lets you know you can use a snack credit to get that tasty treat!)
1. Mickey Bar - YES! This yummy treat is sure to cool you off on a warm Disney Day!
2. Popcorn - Who doesn't like to much on popcorn while walking down Main Street?
3. Cookies - These are a great treat to bring back home! We stock up on these. The peanut butter ones are the BEST!
4. Mickey Pretzel - Not only the standard pretzels, but some locations have the sweet cream cheese filled ones. YUM!
5. Starbucks - Your venti, skinny, double-shot, no whip latte is included! Grab this in the morning or mid-day for that caffeine boost!
6. California Rolls - You can get this tasty snack in Epcot. I have to say I was nervous trying California Rolls the first time. They were delicious - and a great snack to tie me over until dinner!
7. Cupcakes - Who doesn't like cupcakes? Disney has some of the BEST cupcakes I have ever had - like this red velvet cupcake pictured above!

Happy New Year! Is it vacation time yet?
Here at Mickey’s Dream Vacations, it’s never too early to start planning that next unforgettable vacation.
The first thing that everyone should be aware of is Safety First – Metal detectors have been added to all Disney parks as well as all Universal & SeaWorld parks around the country – works for me! If I have to sacrifice a few moments in line for the safety of family & friends then so be it. It’s a crazy world out there so it’s nice to feel protected while I’m having fun.
In keeping with the safety theme, no more toy guns will be sold in Disney Parks (so, unless you are an avid Han Solo or Stormtrooper fan, no one will mourn the loss). However costumes for people over 14 will no longer be allowed. This kind of ruins the Halloween parties but again, I’d sacrifice a costume for my safety.
New on the Horizon
Down in Florida, Disney has their plates full…
There will be no Star Wars Weekends this year (due to Star Wars related construction through 2017 – can’t wait to pilot the Millineum Falcon!).
Jungle Skipper Canteen is a new location to eat in the Magic Kingdom.
In the Animal Kingdom, the Na'vi River Journey (Avatar canoe ride) will open in 2017.
Over in Epcot, Soarin’ will close in January for refurbishment and reopen with new film: Soarin’ Around the World (Summer 2016).
Construction has already started at Disney Studios on Toy Story Midway Mania. They are adding an additional track to cut down the massive lines.
- Rumor has it that there will be a big celebration for the Magic Kingdom’s 45th Anniversary (possibly starting in late summer).
- A little mouse told me that there would be a Slinky Dog rollercoaster added to Disney Studios’ Pixar Place. How fun will that be??
- Rumors continue to swirl around the Osbourne Family Lights getting moved from Disney Studios to Epcot. Whether it’s true or not remains to be seen.
At Universal Studios Orlando, Reign of Kong: Skull Island will open in Spring 2016 as well as a new Water Park called Volcano Bay.
Over at Universal Hollywood, their version of Hogwarts opens in April 2016 and a brand new, year-round horror walk-through attraction has been rumored to open in October.
In Disneyland, a lot of construction starts in January around Tom Sawyer’s Island in relation to where their new Star Wars attractions will open in spring 2017. This will affect the following attractions – Disneyland Railroad, Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes, Fantasmic, Mark Twain Riverboat, and Tom Sawyer’s Island. This could drive some people away from the park (because no one like having their illusion of a magical fantasy-world ruined by construction) but, less people can mean less crowds and maybe that is just what you need to hear to schedule a trip out west!
Disney California Adventure says good-bye to Aladdin the Musical after 13 years. No word yet as to what will be replacing it.
Now, having brought all that to your attention, as if you didn’t need more incentive to book your vacation soon, Disney has released a new promotion for Spring 2016!The Room Discounts run from March 15 thru June 11, 2016. Discounts vary depending on the dates, resort, and room type. Also, if you upgrade to a room and ticket package with 4-day park tickets, you can get one more ticket day for free.
Here at Mickey’s Dream Vacations, we do whatever it takes to make your Disney Vacation planning as easy as possible. Don’t want to wait until the sales are announced? We can reserve your room and tickets for your chosen days and if or when they DO go on sale, we will automatically apply the discount to your existing reservation!
