With the overwhelming popularity of Star Wars, Disney Cruise Line announced months ago that there would be select sailings from January to April 2016 that would offer a Star Wars Day at sea. These select cruise will have a deck party celebration, meet and greets with your favorite Star Wars characters, kids activities, appropriately themed food and beverages, as well as limited edition merchandise.
Star Wars Day at Sea is offered on select 7 night Western Caribbean Sailings on the Disney Fantasy. There is availability on all sailings, but staterooms are filling fast.
As for other galactic happenings.....
The Disney Dream, in Disney's Oceaneer Club, your young padawans are in for an awesome adventure in the newly themed Millennium Falcon! Upon entering the spaceship, younglings will join the Rebel Alliance in the epic battle of good versus evil by assisting with the navigation of this powerful space vehicle. Sitting in the cockpit, children can pilot this super-cool spaceship through hyperspace and trigger lightspeed jumps to different locations around the galaxy.
Disney Cruise Line is also going to offer Star Wars-themed crafts, games and activities in this space. Kids can also watch episodes of "Star Wars Rebels" on a large screen or virtually join the rebellion at gaming stations featuring the series’ action-packed adventures.
The excitement continues during a shipboard version of the popular Jedi Training Academy experience that invites young Jedi hopefuls – known as “Padawans” – to learn lightsaber moves from a Jedi Master. They can then use the Force and face off in a final test against the evil Darth Vader.

Star Wars Galactic Dining at Sci-Fi Dine In

We attended the last weekend of Star War Weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios this year. If you are a Star Wars fan, you HAVE to do this at least once! I have 2 boys (3 if you count my husband) and they are all Star Wars freaks. My 5 year old knows everything and anything about Star Wars - from characters to planets. It was a given that I HAD to obtain a breakfast reservation at Sci-Fi Dine In.... and I did!
As you enter the restaurant you are greeted by Darth Vader and Boba Fett. They don't speak to you, but they are VERY intimidating. My little one was positioned in the picture by Darth Vader using the force. It was GREAT! I don't know how much bounty was on my head, but Boba Feet seemed pretty interested in earning it. :)
After pictures, you are seated in your car. There was something on the breakfast menu for everyone. I happened to get the fruit and Darth Vader pancakes.

Picture
I think my favorite part of the breakfast was the character interaction. The Stormtroopers kept visiting the table. (We even took a selfie!) They were looking for Greedo - who also visited us often. The jawas kept trying to trade a light up ball for my mom's iPhone. We saw one other guest trade his wife to a jawa!

Vienna Adventures!

6/13/2015

It's day 7 and this trip has really been incredible. Adventures By Disney just takes out any hassle or insecurities about traveling international for the first time and really makes traveling enjoyable.

We had quite a bit of sitting time yesterday traveling to Vienna so I knew we would have a busy day today! First we took a panoramic bus tour with our local guide today. We got a glimpse of the St Stephens Cathedral, the museums, the NaschMarkt and so much more.  Next we headed 15 minutes away to another castle. Vienna is known for the Schonbrunn Castle. This is where Maria Theresa ruled over Vienna. On property we got to see a private showing of a Marionette show and go watch a cooking demonstration of Apple Strudel. We've had this on the trip a couple times so it was so fun to see how it is done while sampling it again!

The castle tour started and we learned about the history of Maria Theresa.  The Schonbrunn Castle was their summer home.

This afternoon we were able to venture out on our own to "get lost" in the city.

Our evening was so fun! We went to the Vienna zoo which is the oldest in Europe. The zoo is just a short distance from the Schonbrunn castle. There is an area called the KaiserPavillion, this was where the emperor would come to eat breakfast. We at in this pavilion for dinner. As always the food was delicious!!!

Tomorrow is our last day in the city as well as our Farewell dinner with our amazing guides Dean and Stephanie. I can't wait to discover more of this gorgeous city!

Bye bye Bavaria!

6/13/2015

We checked out of the gorgeous resort in the Alps and the Bavarian country. We headed to our last adventures before traveling to our last destination, Vienna.

Our first stop was the Salt Mine tour. We wore funny coveralls, rode on a train and slid down two wooden slides! We got to see how the entire process works.

Part of my favorite thing about Adventures by Disney is being immersed into the culture. We went to a local bakery to learn about making pretzels. This bakery is owned by the Neumayer family for the past three generations. They supply rolls and pastries throughout the city including the hotel where we stayed. They live by a saying "A Day without Bread is like living a day without the sun". You can see this on a sign right outside their bakery.

This family is known for their organic and traditional way of making bread. We got to learn how to make this specialty and tour their bakery.

We headed on to Mondsee which is toward Vienna. This is another UNESCO city. This has the Cathedral featured in the Sound of Music where Maria got married. We had lunch at s family owned restaurant right on the water. Like many of the other places we've eaten at it was delicious and the view was gorgeous!

Our bus ride to Vienna went by quickly. The tour guides add so much to this downtime. On the last leg we played such cute games and it made the time fly.  We arrived into Vienna in time to have dinner on our own. The advice of the guides was to "get lost in the city!"

I can't wait to go on our tour tomorrow and see even more of Vienna!

The Hills are Alive!!! Day 5

6/11/2015

🎶The Hills are Alive.....!🎶

Today we spent discovering every corner of Salzburg. This city was amazing. It is a UNESCO city so preserved to its historical state very well. Salzburg is known for Sound Of Music and it being Mozart's home. There are several other treasures in this city but those two are what draw people in the most.

We started the day at the Hellbrunn Castle. Scenes of Sound of Music were filmed here. We also learned of the Prince-ArchBishop Sittikus who actually lived there. He had a great sense of humor and had trick fountains through the whole property. Our guide Jessica showed us all the fun tricks he played on his guests.

Our last stop at this Hellbrunn Castle was of the famous gazebo in Sound of Music where Liesl and Rolf sang "I am 16 going on 17".  Only Adventures By Disney has permission and the license with Hellbrunns Castle to allow guests inside. It was definitely a *Magical Moment* for this Sound of Music fan!

After lunch our two Adventure guides surprised us by dressing up in their "play clothes".  It was such a fun surprise as we also got to start our private tour with a descendant of the Von Trapp family. We went to several sites that you may recognize from the movie.

Salzburg is also home to St Peters cathedral which is a replica of the cathedral in Rome. It was gorgeous!

Mozart was born here in Salzburg. We walked by his home in the middle of the city. There are farmers markets and small shops throughout the town center too. Dinner was reserved in a private ballroom in the oldest restaurant in the world. It opened in the year 803! We were serenaded by a duo that played Mozart's arrangements.

Day 4: Amazing sites and views!

6/10/2015

Being apart of these big Adventures is such a privilege! Today, Day 4, was our most active day so far. The views we had from our highest elevation were amazing. We went to Austria into the Alps to climb the Ice Caves. These caves were discovered in 1910. It's 700 steps up to the top of the Ice and 700 steps down. This is now an attraction that you can take a guided tour through. We had a private tour before all the bigger groups started to come through.

Lunch was at the top of this mountain called the Oedl House. They served delicious German dishes that are traditionally served at their Sunday meals. It was delicious. Germany has impressed me with their amazing cuisine so far!

Our last stop of the day was the Hohenwerfen Castle. This castle is in the backdrop in Sound of Music when Maria is teaching the kids Do-Re-Mi. It's placed on a big mountain.

We got to have a private guided tour of the castle. We climed into the clock tower and rang the bell. It was pretty high and very windy! This castle is known for their Falcon show. These birds took flight and would return to their trainers on command. There was anywhere from 1 to 4 birds out flying and getting different commands. It was impressive to see these wild animals trained so well.

A Magical day in Cesky Krumlov! Day 3

6/9/2015

Today was a travel day with a quick stop in Cesky Krumlov. I had no idea what to expect out of this small town but it was breathtaking. This town has been preserved after World War 2 by UNESCO.

We met up with a local guide, Lukas, who took us around the Old Town and New Town. There are 400 houses in Cesky Krumlov. It was originally two towns but through the years to avoid the fighting they combined them. The name of The city comes from the crooked river that it follows. Cesky means Czech and Krumlov is Crooked Meadow. Walking these streets was surreal. This is what I'd picture in a storybook.

Check out these amazing photos of the streets, buildings and the castle!

Dobry Den! Good Day from Prague- Day 2

6/8/2015

Today was a full day of touring this amazing City starting at 8am and going through til 8pm. I'm not sure how to summarize this quickly since the day was so full of cultural experiences.

Along with our Adventures by Disney guides we had a local guide for today. Her name was Hana. She knew everything about Prague and really taught us about the history that happened and how it is today.

We started up on the Hill at the Prague Castle. This Baroque castle is still used today by the Czech President. The castle has been restored but kept as original as possible. There are gardens and vineyards everywhere.

One of my favorite parts of the castle district was the Golden Lane. Prague is built right on top of each other which basically shows the ranks of the people and this area was built below the castle for the GoldSmiths. The homes were very quaint. There wasn't much space in each one.

We strolled down to the Charles Bridge. I love this walking bridge. It has many statues including the St. John of Nepomuck where people come from all over to rub their hands on it for good luck.

We headed back to Old Town square to learn more about the Astronomical Clock that resides on the Old Town Hall. It chimes every hour where tourist come to watch the 12 apostles pass by the two blue windows.

Our afternoon was very unique and Adventures By Disney gave us three experiences in a row that I'll never forget!

Marionettes are a long time tradition in their entertainment in Europe itself but there is a theatre that allows you to make your own! We created our own with the family owned company Don Giovanni. We got them packaged up and get to take them home.

We walked through the Jewish Quarters to get to our River Cruise tour. We sailed up and down the Vltava.  I got to see the Cityscape of Prague and the Charles bridge head on. Incredible!!!

I have loved getting to know the culture here so it was exciting to end the night at a folklore gardens dinner and show. We got to sing, learn a dance and even play a game. The food was family style and delicious.
