New changes to domestic travel

Travelers from nine states will require more than their driver’s licenses starting January 22nd, 2018.
Travelers from Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington will all now require alternative forms of identification, like a passport or military ID, to pass through TSA security checkpoints. A passport, permanent resident card, or a military ID will all work as an alternative.

The nine states fail to meet the standards set by the REAL ID Act of 2005. The REAL ID Act of 2005 sets requirements for state driver’s licenses, and ID cards to be accepted by federal agencies like the TSA.
The security measures set forth by the REAL ID Act of 2005 require states to have driver’s licenses that “verify every ID applicant’s identity, put anti-counterfeit technology in the production of the card and conduct background checks on those who issue driver’s licenses.” Of the nine state some of them may be rewarded an extension if they change their ID process.

Only 24 states, and Washington D.C., are in compliance with the REAL ID Act of 2005, and many of these states have already been given extensions, but by 2020 all states will be required to have compliance with the act.

Planning my trip to Disney - without kids!

Disney without kids is a TON of fun! My husband and I like to visit Disney without kids just about every other year. This September, we decided to visit Disney during the Epcot Food and Wine Festival for a long weekend. We are also celebrating out 10th Anniversary!

This was kind of a last-minute trip. I really wanted to stay at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club or the Boardwalk because they are within walking distance to Epcot. (That is where we plan on spending the majority of our time.) Neither resorts were available, so we opted to stay at the new Copper Creek Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

I am really excited about seeing this resort as it is the only Disney resort I have not stayed at. I booked a Deluxe Studio with the rain shower! There is no tub in this room and the shower looks AMAZING! (Can you tell what we are excited about!) I do like the Wilderness Lodge Resort and I am very excited to be heading “home” for a long weekend!

Because we are going for the International Food and Wine Festival, I didn’t feel it was necessary to make many dining reservations. We will spend 2 ½ days in Epcot sampling all the amazing food options that are brought in for this special event. Thank goodness we will be walking so much!

I am really excited to be visiting Pandora – The World of Avatar. This will be my first opportunity to experience it! We have plans to hit the park in the morning and in the evening so I can get the full experience during the day and night time. I am also very excited to try Satu’li Canteen and Pongu Pongu – the dining options in Pandora. (Can you tell this trip may be a little about foo??)

What I think I am most excited about is FINALLY seeing “Happily Ever After” – the new fireworks show in Magic Kingdom. We will be attending the Fireworks Dessert Party. I have done the dessert parties in the past and it really is a great way to have the best viewing of the fireworks in the theme parks.

There are so many adult things to do in Disney and I am excited to be heading back and doing them again! We will be dining at Le Cellier – somewhere my youngest will not eat at, hanging out on the Boardwalk at Jellyrolls – my favorite piano bar EVER and a few other things!

Pandora The World of Avatar

I had the pleasure of attending the opening press event for Disney's newest creation-Pandora The World of Avatar.
When I first heard Disney was building "Avatar Land" I wasn't too excited about it. I had never watched the movie and am not into Sci-fi.  Being invited to an event like this was so exciting despite my feelings for the concept so I went into it with an open mind.

Walking into this amazing world changed my mind immediately.  It was breathtaking and immersive! You do not have to be a fan of the movie or even have seen the movie to enjoy it.
Pandora lived up to the hype!

When I first walked into the area and looked up I saw the floating rocks, that was the coolest thing. I couldn't stop staring and trying to figure out how they made that work.
I walked through the land and took in all of the details, the smells and sights. It was like walking into a different world.

There are two rides in this area, Flight of Passage and Na'vi River Journey. I rode both and hands down Flight of Passage was my favorite. Na'vi was nice but nothing more than a slow boat ride. I wouldn't wait more than 20 mins for that ride and don't waste a fastpass on it.  Definitely get a fastpass for Flight of Passage, that is one of the best rides in all of Disney World. I would say it's my favorite but I am still partial to Radiator Racers in Cars Land at Disneyland in California. However, Flight of Passage was something I had never experienced before. It was a 3D experience where you sit on a bike type vehicle and "ride" on a banshee. Throughout the ride you can see, feel, hear and smell Pandora, you can even feel the banshee breathing while you are riding it.

Pandora is so beautiful during the day but at night it transforms into a bioluminescent forest that glows at every turn.

I recommend going in the morning to visit and then again at night, it's two completely different experiences.

Pandora offers a quick service at Satu’li Canteen, they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I tried the cheeseburger pod, it was ok. I am not a big adventurous eater so I don't think I will eat there again however, all of the ladies I was with enjoyed it. I tried both desserts and loved the Na'vi cheesecake, it is blueberry flavored with a passion fruit curd.  Next time I will go for breakfast, I have heard it's delicious.

I LOVED the drinks and snack at Pongu Pongu (means Party Party in Na'vi), definitely make a stop there, they have alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. The Pongu Lumpia snack was delicious and a must try with it's cream cheese and pineapple filling. So yummy!

Overall, even if you are not a fan of Avatar you will LOVE Disney's newest land at Animal Kingdom Park.
It's a must do on your next Disney vacation!
