How to Create a Disney Vacation Book

8/30/2016

Picture
  • Download a couple of different fonts. They can be “Disney” or just ones that you like, but there needs to be a variety of styles.
  • Type your itinerary. Be sure to include any important information, time of events, new things to try and fun facts
  •  When you finish inputting your itinerary change the fonts. I usually, try to stick to two different types per page.
  • Print and have the book bound from your office supply store.
  •  Make a cover page. You can get creative here…or you can have your kids get creative! Stickers and fun paper from your craft store will go a long way!

What Do I use these books for?
  1.      Each day my kids write on the back their favorite memory from that day.
  2.    An autograph book.
  3.    We’ve used them as a family project to count down the days.
  4.    I take pictures of each day and use it as my screen saver for while we are in the park.
  5.    My kids look over them after we get back from the park each night. This helps them know what the plan is for the next day, eliminates 20 questions and adds to the excitement!!

8 States in 10 Days

This summer, my family and I decided to do something different for our family vacation. Instead of heading to California and the beach, we headed east and took a 10 day road trip to explore what our fabulous country has to offer. We saw places we wouldn't have normally seen by flying from one destination to the other.

In 10 days we drove through 8 states, stopping at each state line to take a picture. In Kansas we followed Dorothy down the yellow brick road. In Chicago, we saw The Bean and Wrigley Field. We also went on a boat cruise through the city. In St Louis, we visited The Arch and then ended our vacation in Branson, MO for some fun family time with cousins.

This is a vacation that our family will never forget. We grew closer and created memories that will last a lifetime.

Remember, we book ALL travel and our help is FREE. Whether you want a vacation to Europe, the Caribbean or even as simple as a few nights at a resort, we would love to help you.  If you find a better deal, that's not a problem; we price match. Let us do the work while you have all the fun!

Cruise to the Bahamas? Yes, Please!

8/17/2016

My family was looking for an inexpensive trip for our kids for spring break. The beach is normally our first choice but we wanted to do something all inclusive and decided on a Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas. Fast forward a week and we were so happy with our decision!
Our first stop was Half Moon Cay and it was beautiful. On the island they have beach chairs, kayak and paddleboard rentals, volleyball, food, drinks, a playground for kids and of course the beautiful ocean and beaches.
Our next day was at Nassau. We got off the boat and took about a 10 minute walk to Junkanoo Beach. We found a little place called the Tiki Bikini Hut who rented us chairs, an umbrella and served us food and drinks all day. The staff there was so friendly and accommodating.  We rented the stand up paddle boards for the bigger kids (which they loved), the little one snorkeled and built sand castles and the grown ups sipped fruity drinks, ate conch fritters and soaked up the sun!
For the first time ever we decided not to do any excursions, we just wanted to relax and enjoy the beach, but there were so many excursions offered. You can tour the Atlantis, swim with dolphins, scuba dive, snorkel, explore the island by ATV and much more.
Our kids had so much fun that when we got home they said they wanted to make this a tradition! We have already booked our cruise for next spring break and are choosing some excursions to surprise them with for Christmas!

New York City!

I recently visited New York City and had an amazing time. There is so much to see and do! It is an amazing city that I think everyone should visit at least once! Above is a picture from the plane as we landed.
We stayed at the Hilton in Times Square. I loved out hotel! There is a lot to do and it was always busy! I think my son's favorite was the Hershey Store!
Central Park is HUGE! We took a carriage ride so we could see everything. One of my favorite parts was Strawberry Fields. This portion of the park is right across the street from John Lennon's apartment. It is said to be his favorite part of the park. The "Friends Fountain" is also located in Central Park. Our guide was awesome at pointing out all of the popular locations such as the Bird Lady's House from Home Alone 2, the fountain from Enchanted and other fun spots!
We also visited the 9/11 Museum and Memorial. This was the hardest part of my trip. It was surreal to actually see the site from that awful day.
I could write so much more about my trip to NYC - like Broadway, Statue of Liberty,  the Yankees Game, Rockefeller Center, New York pizza, shopping and so much more - but you need to experience it yourself! Let's start planning your trip!

Wicked on Broadway

8/3/2016

I think I’ll try defying gravity!

This is the famous lyric from one of Broadway’s most renowned musicals, Wicked! Yes, I know Wicked has absolutely nothing to do with Disney, but today we’re gonna mix things up.

Since Mickey’s Dream Vacations is an extremely versatile travel agency that is more than willing to book your dream vacation, whether it be on a Disney Cruise or a trip to the Big Apple, writing this blog will help you, our beloved customer, learn more about other destinations.
Today, the main focus will be Wicked and Broadway itself. I just graduated from 8th grade, and for the past 2 years, I have been dying to go to New York and see Wicked, so as my graduation present, my parents took me to NYC! Originally, it was just supposed to be my mom and I going, but then my brother and dad decided to tag along too. My mom and I went to a Tuesday night performance of Wicked, where we were in the 5th row, seats 101 and 102. The Gershwin Theatre is at 222 west 51st street, and in my opinion, it is one of the most modern theatres on Broadway. At our performance, Elphaba was played by Rachel Tucker and G(a)linda was played by Ginna Claire Mason. The show was fantastic. Rachel Tucker had the most unique voice. She riffed a lot, which added more depth to the song, and she was a phenomenal actress. Ginna Claire Mason’s vocal range was unbelieveable, as well as her acting skills. She has great comedic timing! The rest of the cast was also amazing. I think the most memorable numbers for me were Defying Gravity, No Good Deed, and The Wizard and I. Everything about the show was incredible. The makeup, especially the green on Elphaba, all the sets, and the storyline in general were awesome.

If I were to rate Wicked, it would get a 10/10!

Wicked had so much to offer even before the show. There were mini stores stationed throughout the theatre, where you could buy clothes, pens, and other merchandise.
There were concession stands that had unique food and drinks like a Wicked chocolate bar or non-alcoholic daiquiris that are coordinated with the two main characters of the show, I had a Glinda daiquiri. When you purchase a drink, it comes in a reusable Wicked cup.
There is so much to do in the Gershwin Theatre, they have photo ops that you can do to make it seem like you’re right on stage with the cast. Also, the Theatre Hall of Fame is at the Gershwin, so there is so much history.

After the show, we went over to the stage door, where the cast came out as they were leaving and they signed my playbill and took a quick picture. They were all so nice!! If you plan on going to see a Broadway show or a Broadway-like show in a big city, go to the stage door to meet the cast. I just did it in Chicago over the weekend when I went to see the Book of Mormon. After we met the cast, my mom and I walked about 7 blocks to Sardi’s. Sardi’s is a famous theatre restaurant where there are caricatures of all the Broadway stars hanging on the wall. Usually after their performances, many Broadway stars go to Sardi’s to have drinks at the bar. I was hoping to see one of the stars of Hamilton, Lin Manuel-Miranda, but we didn’t see anyone :(. We had an awesome late night dinner at Sardi’s and an overall amazing night experiencing Broadway for the first time! It was absolutely fantastic!

Tips and Tricks for going to a Broadway show

1. Pay extra for better seats! It’s totally worth it! Though you may not believe it, but the place you sit does have an effect on your overall experience.

2. Go to the stage door after the show! It is one of the most unique and memorable experiences that you’ll ever have! Don’t crowd the cast. They just performed for 2 ½ hours and are looking to go home and rest up for the next show.

3. If you’re going to a matinee, eat after. If you’re going to a night show, eat after. You don’t want to be late and not get the full experience because of your dinner or lunch!

4. Get to the theatre early. You’ll want to take pictures and buy merchandise and snacks. Plus, it allows you to get better pictures of the stage when the seats aren’t packed

5. Do not dress casual. Going to see a Broadway show is a classy event, and you don’t want to look like a slob.

6. Don’t be on your cell phone the whole time because it’s distracting for the people around you.

7. During intermission, don’t go to the bathroom unless it’s a true emergency. The lines are extremely long and people were missing the first part of the second act because they waited too long for the bathroom.

Thank you for reading and if you want to book a trip to the Big Apple and experience Broadway firsthand, shoot my mom an email at meg@gomdv.com or visit www.mickeysdreamvacations.com for more options.

Thank you and have a “Wicked” day!

Written by Mike Kinnerk (son of Meg, owner of MDV)

Cast in order of appearance: Jonah Platt (Fiyero), Peter Scolari (the Wizard), Zach Piser (Boq), Ginna Claire Mason (standby for Glinda), Rachel Tucker (Elphaba), Dawn Cantwell (Nessarose).

Disney Magic - British Isles Sailing

8/2/2016

My family and I recently had the most amazing opportunity to be on the inaugural British Isle sailing onboard the Disney Magic. This is the best cruise I have ever been on. We sailed round trip from Dover England with stops in England, Scotland, Ireland, France and the Channel Islands. In nearly every port the ship was met by thousands of people with special entertainment including pipe and drum bands, Irish dancers and even Irish Wolfhounds. For most ports this was the first time a Disney cruise ship has been there. We all felt like superstars.
Picture
Every port was fun and amazing, with some of the most stunning scenery I’ve ever seen.  At Alnwick Castle in England, where scenes from Harry Potter and Downton Abbey were filmed, we learned to fly a broom and met “Harry Potter & Dumbledore.”
Picture
Picture
We were able to see 5000 year old standing stones, named the Ring of Brogdar, on the Scottish Isle of Orkney, that are older than Stonehenge.
Picture
In the Scottish Highlands we visited Eileen Donan Castle where the movie Highlander, with Sean Connery was filmed and even looked for Nessie in Loch Ness.
In France we visited a stunning UNESCO world heritage site, Mont St. Michel, where building on it started in the 10th century.
Picture
Aside from the many amazing ports, food and activities, another benefit to taking a Disney cruise is the first run movies they show on the ship. Our cruise ended the day before Finding Dory was released in theaters worldwide. Because Disney owns the movie they gave special permission to show it on the ship before we disembarked. We were one of the first people in the world to see the movie.
Picture
If you have the chance to take a Disney cruise like this, I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed!

Whatever travel you are considering, whether it be Disney, or anywhere else, I would love to help plan it. Contact me today to start planning your next magical vacation.
