I am leaving in two days to experience the Pandora World of Avatar opening celebration.
Who’s excited??? ME!
This is definitely one of those experiences that I will never forget. I had the opportunity to attend the opening of New Fantasyland as well so I have high expectations for this event.
We will also get to see the new Happily Ever After fireworks show at Magic Kingdom via the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party, which I have heard is amazing!
Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando Resort is also opening this week and I plan to visit that new park and check out all the exciting new experiences going on there.
After the opening festivities I am staying a few extra days to explore the fun with my two boys. We are also renting a cabana at Typhoon Lagoon, I am so excited about this!!!
It's always fun to try new things on vacation, this trip will be a trip of many firsts.
I plan to do some video streaming live on our
Facebook page so stay tuned!

Disney World is magical 365 days a year, but to me, there is just a little more magic around the holidays!
Holiday decorations on Disney property start to appear the day after Halloween. The smell of gingerbread starts to fill the air, garland swoops down the lamp posts, and the cozy feeling of the holiday season is all around you. I have visited Disney World during this time and it is one of my favorite times to be at Disney World!
One of my fondest memories of a trip my family took during the holiday season, is when we went hopping from resort to resort to check out their Christmas tree as well as some of the amazing displays you can find at Christmastime. Stopping at the Grand Floridian is a MUST! Every year the talented bakers of Disney World, create a life size gingerbread house! Construction takes a few weeks and POUNDS of sugar are used! You will even see a large sign that tells you just how many pounds of sugar, butter, honey etc. it took to build such a large structure! It smells heavenly the moment you walk through the lobby doors! I always take a picture of my children standing in front of it.
Another couple of resorts we always go to is Disney’s Beach Club resort and Disney’s Contemporary resort. At the Beach Club, you will find a real chocolate carousel! It is beautiful! The horses of the carousel are often named after the bakers or in honor of family members of the bakers that helped. The carousel even moves and turns in a circle! The Contemporary Resort had a Frozen gingerbread display one of the years we went! I loved reading the board of how much ingredients it took to make that display as well! You really could make a day of just visiting different resorts to see their themed trees and displays!
Starting about a week after decorations go up the Magic Kingdom starts their Very Merry Christmas Party nights! We are making a trip down to Florida from Virginia for a couple of nights this year just to attend the party again during our break. Special event tickets are sold for this party and to us it is WORTH IT! There are special maps given out to party guests that show where limited edition holiday items are located, what time Elsa comes to change the castle to ice, and my personal favorite…where the complimentary hot cocoa and cookie stands are! Your family can just walk up to the designated candy cane stations around the park and receive a delicious cup of hot cocoa and 2 soft and warm cookies to go with it as you enjoy the park.
There is a Christmas parade just for party guests’ eyes only with characters you don’t always see on a daily trip to Disney World. The smell of gingerbread is piped out of the floats as they pass and they are lit up with lights and garland. The characters are dressed in their holiday best and you can even see marching toy soldiers! Christmas music plays and you get the full effect of Disney World at Christmastime! After the parade, be sure to take a stroll down Main Street where it snows every few minutes! An amazing fireworks display is also put on during the party!

Change is inevitable in life, even at Disney World! Last year my family made a quick trip down to see the Usborne Lights one last time. This year Wishes is being updated with a new fireworks show. The new Happily Ever After show starts May 12, 2017. My good friend and I took our oldest daughters on a surprise trip to see Wishes one last time. We had custom shirts designed for the occasion and surprised the girls on the way down!
Wishes made its debut October 9, 2003. I remember the first time I saw that show! It was February of 2014 and my family was amazed! The music gave me chills as I watched it in perfect choreography with the fireworks. Seeing Tinkerbell kick off the show as she lit up the sky flying over top of the crowd is something I will never forget, and I hope they keep that tradition for the new show! I loved hearing Jiminy Cricket and the Blue Fairy as the hosts of the show and it reminded me of my own childhood. I love that Disney is so classic that its characters last through the generations. My kids may not know what a cassette tape is or what a “beeper” did, but we all know who Jiminy Cricket is. It is great to have something that binds us all together through our childhoods.
On the night we saw Wishes, we made sure we got a good viewing spot early! We took turns grabbing our favorite snacks and waited for the show to begin. Once it started, you could hear the cheers of the crowd! Most likely, for many, it would be the last time they would see that show as well. Once the show started, you could hear many people singing along with the music. The show was as spectacular as the first time I witnessed it. Some guests even had tears in their eyes as they watched.
Change is hard, but I am sure new memories will be made with the new show. Our favorite shows may sometimes change, but we know Disney doesn’t disappoint. Disney is always trying to keep things fresh for their guests. This keeps the wonder and amazement of the Happiest Place on Earth alive!
Are you excited to see the new Happily Ever After show?
I would love to help you plan your next vacation!

Most people don’t know that Disney has an amazing family resort located on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. This resort is full of southern charm and hospitality.
The resort is secluded on an island within Hilton Head Island, and is a nostalgic lot of vacation homes with a great lodge nestled under the shade of the live oaks. Here you will find a very laid back low country lifestyle, without the fast pace of the parks, but all the comforts and details that you expect from Disney.
This resort isn’t on the beach, rather it sits on the marsh. The beach is a mile away, you can ride a bike, walk, drive or take the shuttle over. There you will find Disney’s private beach house. Here you can eat, swim in the pool or walk to the ocean. There is also a splash pad for the little ones.
The resort has a nice pool with a great slide. This is where a lot of the daily activities take place. Each day they have a list of activities, from learning about the area sea life, making shark tooth necklaces, mickey mouse tie dyed shirts, camp fires and pool games. They have plenty to keep the kids busy and allow the adults to lounge by the pool and relax.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa that was surrounded by huge live oak trees, the marina and different games throughout the resort area. There is a life size checker board game, putt putt golf and other fun activities for the kids. Hammocks are located in several places for your relaxation. The vills was home away from home, you had everything you needed to prepare meals if you wanted. Full size kitchen, living room and a dining area. You could also dine on your deck if you wanted, or just enjoy the peace and quiet in the rocking chairs. The master bedroom had a king size bed and a large bathroom, with a big whirlpool tub and shower. The second bedroom has a bathroom and 2 queen size beds. If you need it, the couch and love seat also pulls out into beds.
From the moment we arrived we knew we would be returning. Being greeted at the door with friendly cast members, lemonade and freshly baked cookies were in the lobby for our enjoyment. The cast members here are very nice and go out of their way to make you feel at home, even calling you by name.
There are many restaurants in the area, and you will receive info on all of the area places to eat or enjoy the night life on the island.
I loved this resort so much, we booked another trip before we even left. We enjoyed the calm and relaxing environment and still receiving the quality and pampering that you expect from Disney.

Every trip to Disney World is magical, but sometimes let’s face it, things happen! On my most recent trip, I unfortunately had an incident that required a little extra help. I am allergic to raspberries and usually carry an Epipen. That day I had forgotten mine. I was eating at a buffet in Animal Kingdom and reacted to something I ate (not raspberry related). It wasn’t super serious (anaphylaxis), but I did start reacting some and panicked. Of all times not to have my Epipen! That’s where First Aid at Disney comes in.
A friend at my table reached out to a cast member about the issue and multiple cast members descended upon me in a blink of an eye. I was offered EMT’s or the option to go to the First Aid station nearby where trained medical professionals were on hand to assist me. They have Epipens on site as well as other first aid needs. I chose to go to the First Aid station since my breathing wasn’t labored in any way. A cast member walked me quickly and calmly to the station nearby and handed me off to caring and waiting staff. My vitals were immediately checked and I was offered the opportunity to use an Epipen or take some Benadryl. I took Benadryl and was closely monitored by a very sweet RN who made sure everything was going well with my oxygen levels, and I wasn’t in danger. I stayed there for 30 min after dosing for monitoring. I felt so much better and was sent on my way to enjoy the rest of my day.
Until this happened, I didn’t pay attention to the First Aid stations. I was so relieved to know this was offered to guests! Ironically at the next park, my friends and I all needed band aids for our blistered feet. First Aid to the rescue again! They are equipped to handle basic needs (serious injuries/illnesses medics are nearby for). If you are overheated, need band aids, have a bad head ache, or in my case a small reaction to something, they are waiting in the wings. They can take blood pressures, pulse oxygen rates, temperatures, and basic offer medical care/medicines. If the situation were to change into something more serious, they will get you the extra medical attention you may need.
It is comforting to me to know they are there and trained if needed. No one wants to think of something happening to them on vacation, but with life you never know. I was highly impressed with the quickness of getting me some help, as well as the caring cast members I met along the way. My safety was a priority and I felt that. If an unfortunate situation were to arise on your vacation. Rest assured that Disney has got your back! Safe travels!
I would love to help you plan your next vacation!

There’s nothing quite like planning a last-minute trip to Walt Disney World, or any vacation for that matter! The excitement, the magic, the very short countdown! Let’s not forget, the very, very short amount of time to plan!! Can spontaneous Disney trips be both magical and still be stress-free??? Yes, it is possible!! I should know… I’ve not only planned last minute trips for clients, as well as myself, but I am currently doing so right now!
Here are just a few great tips that can help you along the way:
STAY CALM – Contact you Mickey’s Dream Vacations travel specialist. We take the stress out of planning and can assist you with every detail of your Disney vacation… resort, dining reservations, and Fastpass+, just to name a few!
RESORT – You may find that last minute Disney World Resort options may be limited… but not to stress! There are more than 25 Disney resort locations to choose from, odds are pretty good at finding one that fits your needs. And, if you’re not finding anything of interest on Disney property, there are plenty of Walt Disney World Good Neighbor Hotels to choose from! Mickey’s Dream Vacations can help you with both!
DINING - While taking advantage of the Disney Dining Plan definitely has its advantages, planning a last-minute trip to Walt Disney World may leave minimal dining reservation options to choose from. It might be a good idea to initially add the Quick-Service Dining Plan to your package, and plan on doing only 1 or 2 character meals during your stay (paying those out of pocket). If you happen to find all of the character meals you’re looking for, we can always upgrade your dining package to cover those!
PARK HOPPERS – Take advantage of the Park Hopper option! With last minute trips, it’s best to always keep your options open while on vacation! Let’s say you spend the morning at Animal Kingdom, and then decide to head over to the Magic Kingdom for Wishes in the evening… with the park hopper, you can do just that!
GET PLUGGED-IN - Download the My Disney Experience App to your smartphone and use it! Find your way around with step-by-step directions to locations across Walt Disney World Resort. Get wait times for attractions. Look up times for shows, fireworks and parades. Find Character greeting locations and times. Browse restaurant menus and make dining reservations. Select and manage your Fastpass+ experiences. It’s magic at your fingertips… Magic on the go!
MAGICAL EXPRESS – All Disney Resort guests receive complimentary round-trip airport/resort transfers! If you are planning your trip a few weeks in advance, Disney will send you luggage tags that will allow Disney to automatically deliver your luggage to your room… no need to pick up your luggage at the Orlando International Airport baggage claim. If you’re planning your vacation a few days in advance and will not receive your luggage tags before you travel, don’t sweat it… you can still take advantage of Disney’s Magical Express!! Just bring your baggage claim tickets to the Disney’s Magical Express counter at MCO Airport and your luggage will still be delivered to your room!!
Whether planning your Disney Vacation a year in advance or a week in advance, DISNEY VACATIONS create the most MAGICAL moments! I would love to help you start planning! Remember… stay calm, be flexible and just keep swimming 😉
